The term localization refers to the process by which content, programs or websites are converted for a foreign market. This involves correctly translating a text and adapting the style to the target audience. The process includes adapting the text to local conventions, particularly units of measurement and currency, format, colors, list alphabetization and so forth.
For user interfaces, localization will include resizing dialogue boxes in an application or sections of a website in order to make the strings extended by the translation visible or to change the keyboard shortcuts.
The test phase is also an important part of the process, allowing the teams in each country to check that the translation displays correctly.
