History

The localization market is a relatively new one, which emerged and developed in parallel with globalization and the rapid expansion of new technologies. The localization industry has effectively followed the growth of information technology, itself a relatively recent industry.

The first localization companies were started in the mid-1980s, mainly in Ireland, the precursor in the localization business. By working with localization providers, software publishers and hardware manufacturers were able to outsource the translation and localization of their products.

A second boom came about with the invention and development of the Internet, which saw the proliferation of multilingual websites, electronic storefronts or retail sites.

More recently we have seen an explosion in the volume of content on the Web to be published in several languages. This type of translation calls for an excellent degree of responsiveness to ensure the different language versions are in sync.
